What is gleaning? Gleaning is harvesting crops from the farm that would otherwise go unused and donating them to individuals and families within Operation Food Search's network of food agencies.
Help Operation Food Search provide fresh tomatoes to families! Operation Food Search is looking for individuals and families to help pick fresh tomatoes from Eckert's Family Farm in Belleville. The tomatoes will be shared with families in the region through our 200 partner food agencies.
- Transportation to the farm is the responsibility of the volunteer.
- Volunteers are not required to wear a mask while outside
- Volunteers may bring personal gardening gloves.
- Social distancing will be maintained at all times.
- Operation Food Search will provide water
-All Volunteers must be able to:
-work in all weather conditions
-have the ability to work on your feet, crouch, kneel, and walk on uneven terrain.
-be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Unfortunately, this gleaning event is not wheelchair accessible.
OFS will provide:
- Water
- Gloves
- Packing trays
Dress Code:
- Wear layered, comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
- Be mindful of the weather forecast and dress accordingly: rain jackets, water resistant shoes like work boots or hiking shoes are recommended
- Closed-toe shoes are required. Please no sandals or flip flops
Any volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
After arriving at Eckert's please go to the tram area and check in with Lenora.
