Program Description
Operation Backpack partners with local schools to ensure children go home at the end of each week armed with the nutrition they need to make it through the weekend. Many children in our area rely on free or subsidized lunches as their main food source. At the end of each week, students participating in the Operation Backpack program discreetly receive a grocery bag with a mix of kid-friendly, easy-to-prepare foods, tucked neatly into their backpacks. On Monday, children return the empty backpacks to school to be refilled and the cycle continues. The nutritious food provided through Operation Backpack enables children to come back to school on Monday with the focus needed for academic success.
